a little common sense…of course not..this is TFW we are talking about
I came across this article in Business Week magazine recently and was gonna post it in bamboo’s pop culture blog..however with Toronto Fashion Week a mere couple of days away..I thought it was appropriate to do so now…http://tinyurl.com/2xxbs8
there is a great part about some sponsorship issues that they face…however, as a marketer myself..these are non-issues for me because when I do my job correctly, competing brands will always try to steal the spotlight (and more importantly the consumers’ attention) away from the official event, (a great example is the other group of week-long Fashion Shows that happen the same time throughout Toronto clubs during TFW…I know Cheval is having their own week of fashion shows and Elmer is doing his things with a host of others at Ultra).
We, as organizers, must walk a fine line between supporting and cultivating these lesser events while making sure they don’t degrade the main event as it takes a lot of these lesser events to fill in the gaps of communication that invariably present themselves when you do an event of this size. I have had a long-standing policy that anyone that wants to present their current lines during the Toronto Week of Style, (the ones that are ready to sell immediately) are more than welcome to do so. We will provide them whatever support that we can, whether it be through financial, marketing or production initiatives. If I can do it, then it’ll be done. It’s not going to kill my other events, if anything, it’ll help build the movement that the Toronto Week of Style has started.
Imagine what would happen if you could get a host of smaller to midsize brands showing their lines outside of the main venue of a week-long event featuring fashion shows whose main purpose is the educating the consumer of what’s hot
… a consumer who wants to buy what they see on the runway.
Now, imagine they could buy it as soon as the show is finished….
instead of waiting six months…
These ’smaller’ lines might actually become bigger
With a little help…the might actually become a huge global brand
kinda like another designer who started the same way by showing his stuff outside of the tent at Bryant Park on a pier
…in a tent he made himself….
I am just saying…
