A little censorship with your fashion…

I was just chatting on twitter with @victoria_potter and she had posted a tweet about Vancouver Fashion Week looking to ban her for her blog posts on her experience at the last VFW.

Bad move guys.

I have read her posts and I agree with her assesement, (seriously, whose damn ass idea was it to let a designer use dead celebrities as a sales tool, I mean this dude used the Twin Towers in one of his ‘pieces’).

Never stifle opinions or feedback, it will lead to your downfall.

Barbie 50th by David Dixon

Just before David Dixon’s Spring 2009 Fashion last Fall, one of Canada’s brightest stars announced, what is probably the dream job for every one woman I know..hehe.  Dixon announced that he was chosen to design an outfit for one of the Origina Style Icon – Barbie.

Barbie by David Dixon, a limited-edition collection, in black, ivory and pink with accents from the signature black and white pattern from Barbie’s premier swimsuit outfit. “Barbie’s ever-evolving style has secured her status as a fashion icon and kept her relevant to every generation,” said David Dixon. “I designed a collection that celebrates one of pop culture’s most influential and fashionable icons, with pieces that where she’s been and where she’s going.”  Dixon is the first Canadian designer to offer Barbie fashions for women and his line will be the first of its kind available in Canada.

I am glad to see that it’s happening as David is one of my favourite designers out there – Canadian or otherwise.

This Barbie Fashion thing seems to have some legs.

Recently at New York Fashion Week, there was a fashion show that was absolutely rammed (so say the tweeterites that I was following). @weekofstyle had actually done a live re-tweeting of about 20 people that were there and it was fun.  These pics back that up as most of the outfits designed really emulate the Barbie branding.

There were mixed reviews, however, bottom line…this exercise is great for the brand, and my guess that it has surpassed all expectations of those involved.

Congrats and Well done..

Barbie 50th.

So an interesting thing was sent to my email inbox.

Robin Kay of L’Oréal Fashion Week and Jean-Francois Daviau of Montreal’s semaine de la mode were engaging in more tête-à-tête over more red wine in the press room of Bonsecours Market Wednesday.

This time I asked what the discussion was about: “The future of Canadian fashion,’’ came the response, without details. Later, JF shared his vision: it involves Montreal as the country’s major showcase for Canadian fashion. Kay, of course, is on the record as seeing it otherwise.

Along came P&G Beauté’s, chief in Canada, Danielle Bibas, to join the conversation. P&G is the major sponsor in Montreal and L’Oréal is its mega-conglomerate beauty rival.

Kay, meanwhile, was wearing a newly acquired sweater with the label, Ginger – a Montreal knitwear line – hanging from the back of her neck. Nobody could find scissors to detach it for her.

I have literally no idea what to say.
(Except that I agree with Jean-Francois..but I already talked about that here).
